One problem with that schedule is that the deadline for candidates
putting themselves up is the same as the deadline for submission of
questions.  Since questions members might want to ask can often be
specifically motivated by who is running - even if the questions
themselves are generic, this is not ideal.

Separating the two dates with questions being possible after the
application deadline would create a cleaner situation in that regard.

The situation was the same as last year but it was no problem because
the last candidate to self-nominate to run did so two days before the
deadline.  The last time we had four seats available for election
however:

the last nominations were much closer to the deadline (and it seems
natural that with four seats available there can likely be a much
larger candidate field) so it might be more of a problem this year.
