[Osmf-talk] Diversity statement (Was: Next OSMF board meeting on Thursday 30 January 2020, at 17:00 UTC)

I would agree that this topic needs a community discussion first and
should not be voted on by the OSMF board for the whole of OSM.

As Christoph and Mikel pointed out, we already have Wiki pages dedicated
to our values [1]. Diversity should be discussed within there.

In terms of mapping, I feel pretty comfortable with what the OSM
community has come up with so far [2]. Diversity - however defined -
might already be in there. On a side note: I think, this document gives
good guides to many issues OSM is facing at the moment (e.g. the
heightened corporate interest in the project), and we should refer to it
more often.

I feel, what is still missing, is a discussion (and agreement?) how we
treat each other in our various forms of communication. Differences in
(cultural?) understanding of what an appropriate/respectful way of
communication is might hinder many OSMappers to contribute in our
discussions. If we manage to get this solved, we might not need to
discuss diversity separately.

Oh, and by the way, as a non-native English speaker I also feel the
wording about the dominating language should be different. English is
*at the moment* the working language, but it is just a *working*
language, hence, native speakers should take this in consideration at
all times when communicating on any of our channels.

Just my two cents here,
Tim

Thanks Christoph, you've given us a lot to think about. While I don't
think your points substantiate the idea that OSMF is on the precipice of
becoming an illegitimate, dominating force ... I do think you bring up a
number of good specific points about the text we should consider and
would improve it. I'll comment on the diary.

Ich hab das jetzt mal getan und darüber geschrieben:
