I've also commented in Christoph's diary.
I think the discussion is off to a good start, thanks in part to
Christoph. I'll be interested in reactions to my post to his diary. In
that post I also cited the Core Values on the Foundation wiki.
Regarding the "How We Map" guidelines, they are fine but I have a strong
sense they do not go far enough, since they basically relate only to
mapping, and not to broader community interaction, or to the issues of
expanding our reach to the entire globe (which is an explicit goal of
the project, to create a map of the whole world, and primarily to do
that through local knowledge or "Ground Truth".) We need some
guidelines on interaction so people are not turned off and leave the
project; we need to attract more contributors from more locations to the
project!
@Tim Elrick, regarding communication, I am astounded by the incredibly
large number of communications channels, and I agree with you that we
need some common understanding of what is appropriate and respectful.
That, however, is likely not to be enough to diversify our contributor
base.
cheers,
apm
