[Osmf-talk] Sustainable Travel Expenses Resolution – Request for Support

Hi Members,

I am strongly supportive of reducing the impact of fossil fuels. And I
much prefer trains to planes. I thank Michael for this proposed resolution.

To make a more effective resolution I would suggest that the resolution
in its current form is too specific. Highly specific resolutions invite
people to explore the flaws in the the parameters and to gloss over the
principle.

It may be better to create a more generally applicable enabling
framework requiring the OSMF to balance the parameters of physical
presence, carbon dioxide generation, cost and travel times in the choice
of whether to meet physically and the choice of transport to the
meeting.   I would then leave the complex specifics of balancing
multiple parameters and setting rules for the selection of alternative
travel modes to be worked out by the Board or by a Special Committee.

I believe any travel request should motivate first for physical presence
and then for travel mode.  We have recently learned that remote working
is effective in many more cases than we previously believed, and it
produces a very low level of fossil CO2.
