Unfortunately not everyone who contributes to OSM has the same ideals as
yourself.
We do have poor quality data in OSM. Sometimes less than ideal data is all
that is available. From a practical point of view sometimes something is
better than perfection.
Bert has made several good points if you read his emails in full.
Unfortunately they are fairly lengthy and there is a temptation to skip
parts of them.
I think the object of the thread was to identify problem areas so the worst
of the poor data can be screen out before it arrives.
Your sons need to make mistakes so they will learn as do new mappers. If
they don't make mistakes mapping they probably didn't start until they had
a Ph.D. in mapping first. Unfortunately we allow anyone to map which has
both its good side and it's bad side.
