The problem with that suggestion is that it would - if at all - only
superficially pave over the much deeper underlying structural problems
(like the increasing English language and Anglo-American cultural
dominance, the decreasing transparency of board work and the increasing
influence of external special interests on OSMF actions and decisions
just to mention a few key points).
Not superficially paving over these things by extending the nomination
period and urging a number of people to volunteer as pro forma
candidates to stand to create the impression of the OSMF not being as
culturally narrow as it is can in the long term be of benefit because
it could raise problem awareness among members and encourage critical
self reflection among those involved in the OSMF (yes i still have hope
in that regard, at least in some cases). As the saying goes: Failure
builds character. And witnessing failure of key processes in an
organization like the OSMF can be an eye opening experience.
Yes, that is the diehard humanist speaking in me - if you adopt that
view be ready for disappointment...
