This problem already exists with regular map editing. The only difference is that there is a slightly higher burden since you need to register first. Verification doesn't exist, however, or only at a very small scale. 

What is worse, having (almost) no user feedback or having more user feedback than we can handle (today)?

A single anonymous message that can't be verified isn't worth much, this is true. However, multiple identical reports from different users on different dates could be good enough to change the map data accordingly. If there is a local community present, then verification should be possible. If there is no local community present then multiple identical reports leading to a subsequent (manual) map edit are better than having a map that is outdated for years and thus of not much worth.
