I understand that the new ban system can be associated with multiple projects and/or channels.
However, I did not see how the OSMF and the DWG plan to deal with banned users creating multiple accounts so they can edit and vandalize data again. This last year I lost tens of hours reverting changes of a child that was adding fantasy motorways and since he connected them to the rest of the road network, it could have caused accidents or at least generate big routing errors for routing engines and map end-users.
I would like to know what will be done in the future to reduce the vandalizing reverting burden for us fellow editors and when the OSMF and DWG will enable a wikipedia-like reviewing system for new members and/or setup a way to protect some regions of the globe or some names from being changed or deleted by new users.
I am sure you will have to implement such a system in the near future especially after all the russian name removing global edit wars that occurred recently, so I would like to get the timeline for this.
Since you must have already discussed this issue in online meetings, it would be nice if you could just give us a summary of the discussions and proposed solutions for people who could not attend.
Thanks and keep up the good work!
