The platform does matter. I kept pressing the mute/ignore button, as
it only works if everyone threads their replies. On Matrix, we'd be
redacting messages within a few minutes to reduce distress and issue a
warning along a 72 hour mute for the offenders. Turning on moderation
for the list with a disclosed guaranteed latency for review would be a
working compromise.
