It would be best on the wiki. There's a reasonable bit at
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Potlatch_2/Deploying_Potlatch_2 ,
but the descriptions of how to go about actually customising potlatch2
(which is pretty much identical subject-matter to what you've been
doing) is fairly scant.

The documentation on getting stuck into coding is pretty scant to -
while there's technically everything you need to know in the Readme
that you get from svn, I know lots of people have struggled with
getting to the point where they can compile the .swf . I think it's
worth being clear that there's a lot of development you can do without
getting that far though, in the same way as when I got started I
clarified that you didn't actually need a full rails_port install to
go with it!

Any improvements to the developer documentation is very much welcome.
