You do actually get the full text when you select it. I tested that ;-) At least in Firefox you do.

Your explanation of a typical use is certainly interesting, but what it really shows is that we need a better way to show differences between versions, not that we should make your existing painful work flow of copying and pasting text from each version work better. It's a prime example of where knowing the problem is better than just knowing a proposed solution.
