 Could it be an idea to have the ability to add custom maps using the xyz-
 scheme (e.g. http://example.org/tiles/{z}/{x}/{y}.png) to the
 openstreetmap website, as is possible in the iD editor?

 The custom layers could also be saved for logged in users for later use.

 And one could aggregate lists of custom layers that have been used for all
 users, as a library to browse for nice renderings of OpenStreetMap data,
 and sort them by most popular, etc.
