Personally I think that would be too much information for the core OSM website. The OSM website is not intended to be a one-stop shop for interesting information about places, it's intended to make it easy to maintain the OSM data. I'd suggest that the mashing-up of wikidata with OSM can be left to third-party services.
The change you've proposed in this PR (i.e. in the code) is good because it makes it easy to cross-check wikidata while browsing OSM objects, and doesn't impede the workflow of the server, the client or the user. It's all we need.
(Plus, Wikidata *already* tells you who the street is named after. Crosslinking with wikidata gives us these advantages! That's the point!)
