Let's all try and keep this positive and friendly.

This is a public forum, so there are going to be some reports or comments in which the author - intentionally or otherwise - belittles existing contributions or contributors. I think it's best in those situations to try, gently and politely, to explain why such an attitude is unhelpful, while also trying to accept those parts of the report or comment which describe real problems or bugs that we need to address.

This is hard! And many people, including me, struggle with this. I find it helpful to remember that we've all got the same goal in mind; improving OSM and the software that runs it. I think of it as an interpersonal version of [Postel's Law](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robustness_principle), "be polite and helpful in what you write, forgiving and accepting in what you read."
