I'm not so certain these two things are so distinct, but I do understand your point.

How about the inverse feature, then, unless it already exists in an editor I am unfamiliar with? I.e., "import OSM data from vCard" rather than "download OSM data as vCard"?

My rationale here is that when I am traveling and populating my address book through conversations with friends about venues or what have you, I tend to return to OSM to put that data into the map at a later time. If I find that a node or way doesn't already exist for a venue, I add it. Being able to upload a vCard, which represents data entry work that I've already done, to the OSM map would save me and anyone else using address books the way I do a considerable amount of time because it would mean that I don't have to copy and paste map feature details that I've already entered into my address book again into tags on the new node.

Anyways, I suppose I'll keep using my little userscript for download node data as VCF, and will just leave this as an invitation to anyone who wants to help me improve that functionality in the future.

Thanks for your time!
