Great!

I wasn't trying to base this on the quirks of the English language, but I appreciate that there might be some subtleties that either mean my choice of words in English isn't optimal, or that when viewed alone (e.g. on translatewiki) that there is not enough context to go on to choose the most appropriate words (either because the translator isn't aware of the subtleties between the different pages, or is translating just one menu option in isolation). I hope that most languages have the distinction between a setting and a preference, but I'm not fluent enough in enough different languages to be sure.
The split is based on:
* Things that affect your ability to use the site (like the required fields during registration, CT acceptance etc). These can be commonly thought of as being related to your account, and appear under My Settings -> Account Settings
* Things that are publicly displayed to other users - My profile.
* Things that are personal and that while they change the behaviour of the site are not relevant to other people - My preferences
* All the other OAuth stuff, which I think is most closely related to the concept of the account settings - My Settings -> (Various tabs).
I can see (by changing one of my preferences :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: ) that the German translation has Einstellungen and Meine Benutzereinstellungen, and without knowing enough of the language I can still clearly see the problem. Is there a better word in German for "preference", like what food you would personally prefer, to distinguish it from a "setting" like the position of levers on a machine? The French translation has "Mes options" and "Mes préférences" so they are reasonably distinct even though they've gone closer to "options" than "settings" for the account settings.
