I would suggest to also contact maintainers of featured map styles to let them know they have such choice and maybe list which ideas (dimming, various filters) can be used to autogenerate dark version, without developing new style on their own

even if some developers are not creating a dark version of their style due to effort required they still may have capacity to look at possible filters and decide to bless one of these

if there is interested dark mode fan, they may build a small site that can allow previewing transformations with already featured map styles (sounds like a small self-contained project) that may help map style developers to make a choice
