Take a step back, I can kind of see where you might be coming from with this request. Sometimes I want the search results to persist while I browse the results. Sometimes the results aren’t perfect, because of issues in either the database or the geocoder. Other times I want to go through each of the results deliberately. I’ve found myself instinctively opening the links in new tabs just to persist the results list.
Some search UIs allow you to zoom to a result independently of navigating to the page about the result. For example, clicking a result could zoom to that result and expand the row to reveal more details and a button to navigate to the full element page, so you’d need two clicks to get to the element page. Or each result could have a dedicated button for just zooming to the result without opening it. Or that could even be in a new context menu. Lots of possibilities.
