Hi, you might take a look at navit (http://www.navit-project.org/) which 
uses osm2navit to convert a .osm-file to a compressed binary-file used 
for routing then. I know you want pgsql but the sourcecode might help 
you (convertig germany.osm.bz2 takes less than 30 minutes).
