Dear Serena and Marco,

Please find my application to join the Scientific Committee below.

Sincerely,
Yair Grinberger

1. Name: Yair Grinberger
2. Affiliation: Department of Geography, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel

3. Academic experience: One of my central research interests is contribution behaviors and how the context of mapping shapes the resulting data in OpenStreetMap. Specifically, in my recently completed post-doctoral research stay at Heidelberg University I have studied the institutional contexts of data production in OpenStreetMap, how these lead to large-scale data production events, and how such events affect representation and future contributions. In regards to membership in scientific committees, I co-organized the academic track of State of the Map 2019 and a pre-conference AGILE 2019 workshop on the geographical and cultural aspects of geo-information.

5. Editorial experience:
I am now part of the guest editorial teams for two special issues based on the academic meetings mentioned in section 3 - one in Transactions of GIS and one in the ISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information. The latter is dedicated specifically to OSM research.

> I have been working directly with OSM for my research for many years now. One of my primary research interests is in the development of data quality assessment methodologies for OSM in order to help both OSM contributors and researchers identify quality issues and subsequently address them. I am also very interested in how government agencies (such as mapping agencies) can use OSM and how OSM and these agencies can collaborate together [0]. An almost complete list of publications is available on my academic homepage [6] with a similar list compiled by Google Scholar [7]. In addition to this I use OSM data as the primary spatial data source for my teaching in both undergraduate and postgraduate modules. In terms of meeting organisation I a member of the Irish OSGeo Local Chapter [8] and have been involved as a member of the organisation team for an annual VGI related workshop at the annual AGILE GIS conference [9]. Recently I was delighted to be the host of the launch of the OSM Ireland Company and Chapter event at our University [10]. I presented at SOTM 2019 in Heidelberg [11]

I am a member of the editor panel for a number of current Special Issues which include OSM research as a major topic [1],[2] and [3]. I was a member of the Scientific Committee for the Academic Track at SOTM 2018 in Milan [4]. At SOTM 2018 and 2019 I was involved in the organisation of the Academic Track day. > Subject: [OSM-Science] Academic Track at State of the Map 2020 - Call for applications for the Scientific Committee
>
> Dear colleagues,
>
> Following the first two successful editions of the Academic Track at State of the Map 2018 in Milan [1] and State of the Map 2019 in Heidelberg [2], this Track will be included again in the program of State of the Map 2020, to be held in Cape Town on July 3-5, 2020. The main purpose of the Academic Track is to bring together and foster interactions between the OpenStreetMap community at large (contributors, developers, users, etc.) and the academic/scientific community of researchers from all over the world.
>
> A designated Scientific Committee will be responsible for the organization of the Academic Track, co-chaired by Marco Minghini (on behalf of the OSMF State of the Map Working Group) and Serena Coetzee (on behalf of the South Africa local team). We hereby issue a call for applications, inviting all interested individuals to apply to join the Scientific Committee. This team will be in charge of:
>
> * writing and publishing the call for abstracts/papers for the Academic Track at State of the Map 2020
> * designing and managing the review process of the submitted abstracts, deciding which ones to accept for oral presentation or poster presentation
> * defining the Academic Track schedule at State of the Map 2020, by working in close contact with the Programme Committee<https://2020.stateofthemap.org/cfp/#committee>
> * planning and managing possible publication outputs, e.g. conference proceedings and/or or a Special Issue in a scientific journal
>
> The Academic Track Scientific Committee will be composed by Marco and Serena plus additional people that would be selected through this open call. The number of additional people is not defined a priori and will depend on the number and quality of applications received.
>
> Thus, we invite applications for researchers or academics to be part of the Academic Track Scientific Committee. The call is open to everyone interested. Applications shall be made exclusively by sending an e-mail to this mailing list (science at openstreetmap.org<mailto:science at openstreetmap.org>), and filling the following template:
>
> Name and Surname
> Please enter your name and surname.
>
> Affiliation
> Please enter your (current) full affiliation.
>
> Academic experience, in particular on OpenStreetMap
> Please enter a short description of your main academic interests and contributions, especially related to OpenStreetMap. A full list of OpenStreetMap-related publications (or a link to it) is appreciated. Also, please list your previous experience as a member of scientific or academic committees. Place the focus on OpenStreetMap, when relevant.
>
> Editorial experience
> Please enter a short description of your editorial experience, e.g. as a Member of the Editorial Board of scientific journals, Guest-Editors of Special Issues, reviewer for scientific journals. Place the focus on OpenStreetMap, when relevant.
>
> Participation in State of the Map 2020
> Although it is not strictly required that all members of the Academic Track Scientific Committee participate in the State of the Map 2020 conference, a sufficient presence is required. Therefore, please inform us whether you plan to attend (if selected as a member of the Academic Track Scientific Committee).
>
> Only applications submitted according to this procedure and only self-nominations will be considered.
>
> The deadline for applications is January 8, 2020.
>
> Applications will be assessed by the OSMF State of the Map Working Group and the Cape Town local team. The Academic Track Scientific Committee will be formed based on the candidates' personal merit and their chance to participate in State of the Map 2020 (assessed from the answers to the questions above) and according to the overall goal of forming a diverse and interdisciplinary Team. In absence of candidates who are meeting the expectations, the OSMF State of the Map Working Group and the Cape Town local team reserve the right to nominate additional persons by invitation.
