Strategic
The Board has kicked a few more issues our way.
* MapOSMatic will be looking for new hosting, and asked the OSMF if it can be
provided. I'll forward the email. They currently have hosting from FSF, but it's
not permanent. MQ offered hosting, but MapOSMatic was not interested in
commercial support.
This touches on two policy issues, IMO. One is how the Foundation chooses which
services to allocate resources to? What do we support now? Do we want to expand
this, how are those decisions made, what resources would it take, and where do
we get the resources?
The other issue is similar to the tile policy. Given services (that may or may
not reside on Foundation servers) how to make the choice of which one, and how
should it be integrated into the site? MapOSMatic could probably go into the
export tab, with some redesign. But take the case of routing ... how to choose?
* Transwiki was offered a 2k donation for development, and Steve asked the Board
if OSMF could receive the funds. I believe the actual need is no longer there
(he found another way) but in general, can OSMF act as financial umbrella for
other related projects? What does related mean, and what are the administrative
implications? I myself have been in the same boat as transwiki with HOT and Map
Kibera.
* Articles of Association. The Board has seen that our current Articles of
Association need revision. Andy Robinson was looking at this, and we could ask
him to brief us on the issues at some point.
So already a lot of concrete stuff on our plate. I suggest we have two main
agenda items for next meeting on Thursday: first to wrap up discussion on tile
layers policy, and set concrete steps for making our recommendation. And second,
briefly survey these other issues and decide on what we want to tackle next.
