I always associated farmland with growing plants and animals, not minerals.
There is plenty of small scale salt ponds, but it is not a good reason to
not call it industrial activity. Typical definitions is "
the activity or business of growing crops and raising livestock.
" for farming and "economic activity concerned with the processing of raw
materials and manufacture of goods in factories." for industry. Salt ponds
IMHO clearly belong to the second category.

Scale is not relevant here, almost all industrial and farming activities
are performed on large and small scale.
