Don't forget the opposite!
One occasionally sees a water tap of some sort, which is explicitly
*not*potable
*not* drinkable.
The International Plumbing Code (IPC) section 608.8 covers marking of
non-potable sources.
Curiously the requirement is in English. Have a read:

Recent amendments to 608.8.2 specify the use of purple colored piping for
such systems with rain and graywater.

The same issue comes up as with potable: the water is non-potable according
to whom?
Does the sign explicitly describe a hazard with the water, or simply state
that the authority has
not certified the water.
