that's factually incorrect, you first uploaded the diagram to the wiki in
Jan 2015:
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/File:A-simple-station.svg

and then changed the written documentation ("allowing" only nodes)
accordingly in Feb 2015:
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Tag%3Arailway%3Dstation&type=revision&diff=1140728&oldid=1115036
with the comment: "I rewrote this page because it was not up to date
anymore (source ist User:Nakaner/Tag:railway=station

it was topic a few weeks ago at OpenRailwayMap IRC)"

It would have been desirable to discuss beforehand and publicly this
significant change of the wiki definition for a widespread tag, e.g. here,
rather than unilaterally changing the definition with just a vague
reference to an IRC discussion in a channel for rail enthusiasts and a page
in your own userspace.
