Slightly off topic: vie ferrate are not a familiar thing in the
mountains near me.

In favourable weather, the usual drill is to walk up holding onto the
cables as those climbers are doing.
In foul weather, it's common to wear a climbing harness and slap
ascenders on the cables.
The slick feldspar there makes that stretch well-nigh un-hikable
without the aids.
I'm not sure what the folks in the Alps consider the defining features
of a via ferrata to be.
