I appreciate that, Zeke; thank you in advance for your wiki corrections.

From context I'm assuming natural=grassland is the actual tag being discussed here, but it's rather confusing since another popular tag for grassy areas is landuse=grass.
Yes, speaking for myself, in all cases where I said landuse=grassland, I meant natural=grassland. My apologies for my error.

Yes, it does. OSM struggles somewhat with the expression of "a" or "the" correct (more correct) tag on a number of activities that have to do with farming. This discussion highlights some of these.
> Actual tagging and the (old) wiki reflects both views (descriptive). The altered wiki tries to implement one view (prescriptive).
Yes, it is not cool that this wiki is doing so, especially with no previous discussion. While it may be "more correct" in a local context of one country or region, that's something to be addressed in the wiki on a country / regional level, not the entirety of the wiki, as that affects the entirety of Earth. Other wikis (e.g. for rail, bicycling...) have regional / countrywide flavors that "tune" tagging for a particular country. This may be an appropriate solution for meadow / farmland.
> While I disagree with the view that farmland means crops, excluding hay and cattle, I think it's alright to use this as a localized tagging rule if it fits the country.
I agree, farmland CAN include hay and cattle. However, when we have more "tuned" tagging like landuse=meadow (grazing happens), natural=grassland (grazing doesn't happen), and aforementioned orchard, vineyard, aquaculture, greenhouse_horticulture...of course it is appropriate to use them. It is true in OSM that "tagging generally is OK, tagging specifically (if and when known to be true) is better." The tag "farmland" is quite general. The tag "meadow" is quite specific.
