It may be in your area, but this blanket statement needs some 
qualification elsewhere in the U.S. For example, the nationwide Peet's 
Coffee chain gives a 10¢ discount for bringing your own mug [1], and the 
city of Tacoma, Washington, coordinates with local cafés offer similar 
discounts. [2] Needless to say, these programs are probably on hold at 
the moment, and I don't know if Bring Your Own Plate is even a 
phenomenon here. But it would surprise me if jurisdictions across the 
U.S. could agree on an anti-BYOP policy, of all things, when they 
couldn't even agree on mask wearing during a pandemic...
