I simplified. A lot.  Nevertheless, the search box searches for names
(actual name, operator name, etc.) not functions.  I cannot use it to
search for things that are post offices but not named "Post Office."

If the name is "Fooville Post Office" then that goes in name=*.  If the name
is just "Post Office" then that goes in name=*.  If the name is "Brian's
Place" then that goes in name=*.  The fact that it is tagged as
emnity=post_office will result in a suitable icon in many cartographic
styles.

If you're using "Post Office" as the name to allow the thing to be searched
for with Nominatim, that's probably not a good idea.
