Why would you do that? It's like deprecating any of the 'ref' tags like 
'ref:IFOPT'.

Adding the abbreviated name of an operator to a tag is a very common 
technique, and actually necessary. Not only for ref:XYZ or zone:XYZ, but 
also for e.g. the names of bus stops.
