I tend to agree with this take as well. I associate "cultivated" with
growing crops, while "manicured" sounds to me like decorative plantings and
other artificially-created natural displays for aesthetic reasons. In
addition, "manicured" is the terminology that we have used to describe
parkland tagged with leisure=park. I would expect such parkland might
contain shrubbery plantings as a component of "manicured parkland".
