I think that large ones also can be tagged as weirs.
Either way proposal should propose some way to handle this and how to handle
such elements.
Personally I would strongly prefer keeping current tagging for them.
Maybe choose tagging so both check dam and weir can be tagged at structure
that matches both?
Or clearly describe what distinguishes them?
