Addresses are not just used for mail delivery, they are also used in many
places for emergency response. Many substations and other utility
infrastructure locations around here have addresses. There is actually a
sign at the gate or otherwise in front of the location with the address.
Some parks around here also have addresses, again, posted near the
entrance. In neither case would mail ever be delivered to one of these
locations. Also local officials may assign addresses to vacant lots.
Again these are important for emergency response. In the above cases I
think putting an address in OSM is appropriate.
However, this does not apply to the objects that were the subject of the
original post. In that case the addresses - since they do not really apply
to the object in question, rather a nearby location - should not be put in
OSM.
