Hello,
I am the Author of OpenCampingMap (https://opencampingmap.org/) and I just
recently came across the existence of the tag leisure=summer_camp.
This tag is very uncommon in Germany (where I live).
Looking at OSm as a whole we are talking about 813 vs. 123310 sites.
I think we should deprecate this tag which is AFAIK not used by OSM
"customers" anyway in favour of tourism=camp_site with additional tags.
Why do I think so?
Well, sommer camps _are_ common in Germany and sites for such events are
usually taged with the generic tourism=camp_site tag adding an additional
group_only=yes and if appropriate also scout=yes, tents=yes, and
caranvans=no and not leisure=summer_camp.
To be honest they often did not have these additional tags and the fact that
they have not been distinguishable on the map was one of the reasons I
started Open Camping Map and my effort to improve campsite tagging.
I strongly feel that using tourism=camp_site is the better way to tag this
than using a rarely used tag mappers don't even think might exist.
Summer camps are just special types of campsites after all, even if reserved
for groups only and often operated in summer only (Which is BTW also true on
many tourist campsites). I think we have opening_hours to express this fact.
What do you think?
Sven
