usually these are orthogonal options, rather than exclusive prescriptions. Maybe this will change in the future but so far the apps I have seen were all alternatives to more traditional solutions like parking tickets. 
There are also (or have been) scratch card like prepaid tickets where you scratched the date and time of arrival
