As I said before trying pining various hostnames to find where the issue is, it sounds like you can hit the main website, but not the tile servers.

Try pinging a.tile.openstreetmap.org b.tile.openstreetmap.org c.tile.openstreetmap.org

I don't have any issues in firefox or opera...
