There have been some interesting tweets today:

Now on at #smartgov Colin Fairweather on how Melbourne became a smart city
Colin says the City of Melbourne will be making public a large amount
of maps data this month - "google on steroids" #smartgov
Data will include property & business census, occupancy survey, land
use, employment, business listings, facade images, valuations
#smartgov
Colin says they would like to get electricity disconnection & liquor
license data to support updates of land use information. #smartgov
Data goes right down to information on individual trees (where of
significance), includes mobility map for disabled persons #smartgov
Colin says they geocode the front and most rear doors of every
building in the city - providing data to fire brigade #smartgov
Colin says they also want to eventually allow the public to add rich
data to maps with appropriate governance #smartgov
