I already converted them to .osm format. Yes, it would be nice if people
from Geoscience Australia were aware of what people like us are using
their data for, and engaged with the community.

Yep, not too hard to convert the Feature code into the osm schema. I'll
add this to my script.

In Australia maps published by the crown fall into the public domain
after 50 years.

"non-commercial" hence not CC-BY-SA/CC-BY comparability.
There are two problems with the current data.
1. Spatial accuracy isn't great. For some reason a bunch of points are
all clumped together at the same location.
2. I would like to double check that GA releases and is able to release
the whole dataset under the CC-BY license, and that the statements
within the User Guide which say that "Copyright in the Gazetteer of
Australia resides with the relevant, State..." means that the states are
the copyright holder, but GA still has the license to release and does
in fact release the data under the CC-BY license.
I've emailed the GA about these, so I hope to hear back.
