I think that unless you've surveyed the area or have some other knowledge,
you should assume what's in OSM already is correct and not override it with
LPI Map data unless you have more evidence as to why the name on the LPI
map should be used over what's already in OSM. If they differ, maybe make
an OSM note to double check it via a survey or open a changeset comment
against the original name asking where it came from.

As per http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:name , "For disputed areas,
please use the name as displayed on e.g. street signs for the name tag", so
name should be what the street signs say, other names can go in alt_name or
any of the other name keys.

I think if you're not sure where the current name in OSM came from, then
you shouldn't overwrite it with LPI Map data unless you've done the
physical survey on the ground or have other evidence.

Again as per http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:name if the street sign
says "X" but LPI Map says "Y", then name=X, and possibly if you really want
to add it alt_name=Y.
