[Talk-bd] Editing, documenting, making great maps of Bangladesh!

Hi All,

I've been doing a fair bit of work on OpenStreetMap over the last while.
This started after I got back from my last trip to Bangladesh in early
December last year.
I hadn't edited OSM in almost 5 months, which was the biggest gap since i
got involved.
After collecting gps traces in Bogra, Saidpur, Banderban, Coxs Bazaar and
Dhaka, I decided not to waste any time in getting the map updated.
The experience of doing stuff with OSM again sucked me back into it, and
since the new year, my activity on OSM has increased hugely.

Then I realised something - the vast majority of my recent work has been in
Ireland, and very little in Bangladesh.
The reason I was putting off Bangladeshi edits was because I was slightly
unsure about how to approach it.
There is alot of potential in Bangladesh for OSM, with great sources of
information, and enthusiastic people.
Being on the other side of the world, it's difficult for me to get a
feeling for how the Bangladeshi community maps.
And so I started thinking "I'll leave this bit till later, maybe discuss it
with the local Bangladeshi mappers..."

Up until now, I havent actually discussed any mapping with you, the
Bangladesh OSM community.
This is something I intend to correct.
So any time I make a significant edit from now on in Bangladesh, I will be
emailing this list about the where, how, why, and everything else.
I really hope this wont be a one-way thing, and that we get some active
discussion going.

Wishing you all the best, and happy mapping!

Larry O'Neill
