This is correct for many creative works, like music, but as I
understand it, the creativity expressed in maps is governed by a
separate sui generis right. The database rights (the collection of
street names, ...) expire after 15 years. The publishing rights on the
physical map printouts expire after 50 years. At least, that is how I
read the multitude of information out in the wild on the web.
I'm trying to get this confirmed or rejected by a specialised lawyer.
