I'd suggest ones based on the MTK chipset. I have an i-Blue 747 and am
very happy with it. Some advantages:
  * Very high precision according to reviews + WAAS
  * long battery life (25h according to manufacturer, I haven't actually
    tested it that long)
  * Has open source linux drivers and drivers for all platforms
  * There is an open source client application written in java to
download tracks, etc. It's better that the one that comes with the
    unit itself.
  * Easy to use: just turn it on and it starts logging
  * It can be used as a GPS mouse via both BT and USB

I bought mine from eBay, where units can be had for around 60EUR.
