I now did, and he replied. He appears, and I'm paraphrasing, to have 
been experimenting with some tools and a self-written converter, and 
loaded the results in JOSM, and somehow started uploading.

There is no history information on the current data, so an easy revert 
is not possible, as I can see it now. Who has a good idea about how to 
potentially fix this?
