Hi Anton,
If you want to see how I do it 'live', contact me on google chat or on
Skype (Polyglot.Openstreetmap). I'm usually 'invisible' so simply send a
message and I'll let you know if/when I'm on line.
The trick is to make use of the associatedStreet relations which are
present in the 1xxx.osm files.
Right mouse button, select members
Then
Right mouse button, select relation (add).
If you install the scripting plugin I have a script which does that and
some more automatically.
I'm working on a script which does the integration if buildings are already
present in the data, but it needs more testing.
