Hi,

Did you think of the following issue?
After we added :fr and :nl names, people having configured their browser
with fr and/or nl as their primary or secondary browser preference will
no longer see the bilingual default in applications like Nominatim (OSM
search).
This is akin to my surprise when s.o. spoke of some query and my query
didn't seem to return his result.
That was only because it returned that result in Walloon which is of
course in my secondary preferences.
(When I can see the reply in Chinese or Walloon, I prefer Walloon)
This is probably delightful for a monolingual Frenchman, but is it for a
bilingual or multilingual Belgian?
:ll is certainly useful when the primary name is not understandable by
someone speaking ll, but is it when the primary name does contain the
name in ll?

!!! highway=slippery !!! ;-)
Moreover, the Belgian law obliges to display names of the bilingual
regions in both languages.
And the issue becomes: is OSM legal?
(no/half kidding, there have been big Belgian issues for much less than
that).

I think it would be a good move for Osmose to pursue their goals to
request support for the browser configuration of a dummy languages
called something like "default" and "OSM-default". The applications
recognizing it would display the default name.

Or would someone find a better idea?

Cheers

André.
