[OSM-talk-be] Missing windmills data ?

Hi all,

Thank you for your enthousiasm! I’ve implemented some suggestions I’ve received in a new version. The biggest noticable change is that a label is shown when the power output is specified (thanks for the hint, Joost).

Hi Mathieu,

Glad you like MapComplete! It is pretty easy to set up such a map viewer/editor - you can do it yourself to for a totally different topic. A single .Json-file configures everything (and can be 'sideloaded' via the URL). An overview of all the themes is at mapcomplete.osm.be (and some more unofficial themes are on the wiki)

About the Windmill-theme: next steps are to furhter polish the theme a bit further (e.g. a few more questionse, ...). You can see the source .json here: https://github.com/seppesantens/MapComplete-Themes/blob/main/OpenWindPowerMap/OpenWindPowerMap.json

I'm still cooking up a feature to do unit handling better - when that is done, I'm expecting a PR from Seppe to have it as official theme into mapcomplete and to promote it globally.

And indeed, the completeness is much better than I thought. I’ll review that and will try to better document all those windmolen ;) Especially the height and power is important to differentiate industrial vs private machines.

I think we have all we need to go further now. What should we do in order to motivate people to use it ?

Hi,

Colleagues of mine did an analysis of wind generators in the province of Antwerp, and found that OpenStreetMap had only two or three errors (one removed, two missing IIRC) when reviewed in detail.

In Flanders, we have gotten pretty good response from municipalities when using the MapComplete platform. Maybe we could make a wind generator theme and ask municipalities to check and complete the data?

Les communes disposent généralement de ces informations, à priori on pourrait les obtenir sur simple demande. Parfois c’est même décrit sur un panneau informatif.

En bonus il reste à relever les éoliennes privées, surtout celles autour des exploitations agricoles.

Qu’en pensez-vous ? Comment démarrer ce genre de community-assisted survey ?
