Hi all,I'm seeing more activity on the Wiki page, so thats awesome, the
latest was a request to post a summery.
It might have been a little post dated.
Oh ya, FYI, i'm now on the talk at openstreetmap mailing list.. and i see
there's tonnes of messages. Hopefully i'll be more upto date on whats going
on. :)

point:
Remembering about my discussions with mungewell & Ibycus back in may, i now
can see how this python script can be used for this import (sorry if im a
little slow, its ALOT of info to take in)
I see on the wiki that the charts are being worked on, so as was pointed out
earlier, the natural areas can be imported no problem, with little conflict.
.. (lets hope, thats why we test area 1st) and so it's the roads thats of
concern.
If we can agree on where we want to have the bboxes which will exclude 'ALL
GeoBase import' have that box as light as possible,
I dont think it has to be a box, just a full area, so then on the Ibycus mp
file it would just be a matter of selecting all the geobase data that would
be duplicated (1 tile at a time) and deleting the data. so the remainder of
the data which didnt get placed would need to be hand placed.

... ps. Ibycus might have the smaller tiles that have been since merged like
092B is a merge of 16 tiles. .. have each tile separate would make it
easier. ... and announcing what tiles have been done on the wiki would make
sense too.

IMO, for the Tofino map, protection island and Nanaimo city area, and for
Mount doug park.. i dont have a problem with a blanket import. It would
just mean that i would need to look at all the duplicates and move the
points so it overlaps completely, or hitting the delete button.
But for the complete areas such as Victoria and Vancouver there is Way way
way more duplicates.

So it's really 2 topics of discussion. 1 the technical importing process,
and 2 the size of the areas that need to be protected.

Solution: By actually using both maps ontop of eachother (i added a
download section to Victoria, Vancouver & halifax so far) showing the exact
link to get the right tiles for both ibycus and OSM, then you can navigate
around and decide for yourself, what would be better (removing duplicates,
or adding in and tracing roads, and points.

A thumbtack: Because Ibycus map is now almost a year old, there is more
detailed data available.. ie house numbers for provinces. Do we wait for
Ibycus to produce a whole new mapset? ... or go the otherway and import the
data from each geobase section?

Cheers,
Sam Vekemans
