Thanks, Dave,Well,
I have been messaging a few people now, and the results i got were
possative, that they are fine with holding out and only mapping trails. ..
and new mappers that see the canada page are instanly aware that were gonna
do the import...

I send out messages to mappers, and havent gotten a reply.
We might have seen a significant drop in the amount of mapping that is
currently going on. Have we?

By using the Ibycus topo and current OSM data as a template, although the
Ibycus data is old, and new is available.. it certainly provides a good base
for what will be available.

On one hand... people who received my message (and didnt reply) could have
been 'pissed off' that theres a chance that all there work could be wiped
out.... or moved to its more correct place.
For those who have been mapping things like the actual name of buildings and
the outlines of buildings and parking lots... odds are better that this
stuff is not available from the import.

We know 'positively' that ALL bike trails, and hiking trails, Dont have tags
saying what acess is available, and what activities are permitted, and what
organiztion is responsable for the upkeep of the park. ... and adding
relation routes, so it will show up on the cyclemap, are all things that
WON'T be imported from CanVec or GeoBase.

I will be bugging a few more people out there....
So i think that we can narrow down the number of tiles which will need this
'special import script' to look out for current data. ... as for the rest of
canada... it's mainly JUST the streets of the neighborhood and a few things
like a school, church, hotel. For towns like that, it's not that hard to be
fixing the ghost lines.

So ya, its a 'lunchbag letdown' and will be. .. I don't really see any
simpler way todo it.??

Re: Netherlands Data
Ya, a chart of mappers voting about the regions to 'Keep and/or Replace'
sounds like a plan.
And ya, a message on the talk list isn't good enough. .. Having it on the
main Canada page is Awesome.

I will report back to you all, the numbers of how many users i contacted,
and how many responded. and feedback on it.
We need the number of Talk-ca subscribers (is there a way to filter by
location??)
... and also seeing the number of users who have a
wiki.openstreetmap.orgaccount.
all those people will be messaged. .. I'll post a note on their 'talk'
board, so when they log in, they "should" see it. ...
... I see 45 on the wiki site, i can post a note on them all,.. as well as
digging through OSM and sending a message to them that way. (looking at the
roads, and checking source) and seeing if this user has been contacted.
... fortunately most users keep the same ID... but some don't. .. and
some don't create a Wiki page.
.. there are some users who just add in 1 or 2 roads, and thats it. ...

Would be great to see a full list... is that technically possible???

... and ya.. i vote for the take time and get the script right in a test
area. "building on the shoulders of Giants" ;) ... Linz is watching, as
others also...

Cheers,
