Hi all, a quick update. should be complete, if anyone has idea's feel free
to comment. :-) These are a list of things that I'm currently working on,
but happy if others want to take on tasks. ... it's of every ones national
interest to get it done, as it all leads to a better map :-)

Fortunately, with the 1st item, i might be able to find volunteers here on
the island.

*meetup.com group
*-so far so good, just gotta make sure i give more notice
-100% attendance truth rating (those who RSVP is accurate)
-will host more meet ups special meet ups for cycling; hiking ; data import;
technical work ; general detail mapping areas

*Walking-papers.org
*-great to add details
-great to have mapping parties with

*bikemap.net
*-great for creating routes & using tracks
-have a couple started already (VI spine proposed route)

*canvec2osm
*-v0.90 working on dealing with 16 tiles at once. (just about ready)
-loading .zip files to mediafire
-this script is a "data conversion program" go convert shp-to-osm where the
zipped .osm files are available to work with.
-original SHP files will be available folder also (for review) and compare
with next canvec version
-importing is 2nd step, and can be done by anyone (with a good README.txt
file that needs to be updated)
-no fix-up is needed when manual copying with the .osm files at hand.

*Ontario MNR trails
*-just waiting to get confirmation of fax received to get access to data
(was faxed Friday) will call this Friday to followup.
-need to make rules.txt file for it
-need to make data conversion script .bat file
-need to make googledocs detail chart for it (listing what data to include,
and how to translate it)

*Garmin maps
*-need to figure how to make combined contour maps
-shp files are in canvec zip
-need to make Canada Garmin Map install file
-need to make Across Canada Trails - routes map update

*OSM atlas
*-author working on making sample file
-looks great so far :)
-need to learn more technical details about it

*Proposed paved National Cycle route
*-need to go to Port Alberni to get tracks (ferry route)
-need to make first draft route with bikemap.net
-need to get it 'officially' proposed. (someone needs to support it in
writing)
-need to list (as many as possible) peoples routes who biked across Canada
(fully loaded with gear) using bikemap.net (with cyclemap layer)

*geobase roads
*-need to work with the postGIS pros to get complete.osm files (and make
that geobase2osm program a data conversion program, so local users can copy
over data.

*geobaseNHN2osm
*-yan from Quebec working on importing
-need to convert for Van island
-need to make script a bit better (learning from canvec conversion script)
-noting that waterflow is not available everywhere,
-geobaseNHN has river names directly on the ways, where in canvec they show
up as extra notes in the named features file, the former is preferred.

*Trans Canada Trail
*-will be listed as 2nd name
-not listed as route (not designated NHN nor NCN)
-need to get confirmation in writing (to use or not to use data)
-need to fix the wiki page to be more accurate

*Proposed VI spine
*-need to make POI file
-pending on CanVec & geobase roads import (to physically find the temporary
alternate route)

*Ottawa -OSGeo OSM
*-wont be able togo, but will host uStream.tv conference in lue
-webinar
-will host mapping party
-still need to arrange for meeting room and get some RSVP's for it

*Vancouver trip
*-TrailsBC AGM -talk to those who showed interested in OSM
-will host mapping party this Sunday for Vancouver Mappers
-still need to contact a few more people in the area to invite

*wikiMap tourist maps
*-pending on more van island data
-template in works

*OSM community
*-focusing on how imported data will be available to copy over, (by
local mappers) than imported directly.
-continue to talk to more mappers

*OSM Canada Chapter idea
*-brainstorming with international osm-chapter mailing list
-biggest advantage is that universities could donate computing power & lab
time resources
-and other non-profits and organizations would more likely be willing to
donate data to an actual non-profit, than a group of hobbyists.
-those interested can help update the wiki

*Wiki- updating
*-change name of 'GeoBase Import' page to 'Canada Import' because were
dealing with a whole bunch of data now.
-remove out-of-date wikicharts
-make the Canada page more clear

*Canada Import Googledocs chart
*-make look nicer
-incorporate GeoBaseNHN better
-fill in data
-make chart available on the wiki more prominently
-explain WHY chart is used rather than wiki
-show image of progress (Canada pictorial)

the the the... thats all folks :-)

Cheers,
Sam Vekemans
