Thanks Richard.. i think i'll start mapping Flying Rhinocerosesses... as
soon as i see them :@)

Anyway,
Regarding all of the 317 map features that need to be tagged 'correctly'.
The only way i know how todo that is just by simple ...usage. When the
.osm files become available and people start "copying in"[1] the data, so
to make their working area better. They will start to notice that certain
tags may need to be changed.

I think that the work flow will be that we need to submit patches back to
NRCan when we see that changes to the .osm files are needed. We can also
run a quick script through the .osm file, and it will change the tags that
the community found. ... (notepad with find/replace works easy). So a
little script that would automatically make those changes in all the .osm
files (shouldn't be that hard).

Undoutably, there will be errors in the tagging for the 1st round. ... but i
think that we need to be clear & constantly remind people that *"the .osm
data that will be available, is available for the purposed of enhancing the
existing osm data".* This is why it's important to be* only working in the
area which you have physically been in*. So you can make the best of the
data thats available. It is MUCH better to have a map that is technically
accurate in only a few NTS tile areas. Than to have thousands of NTS tile
areas that were 'bulk_implopped' where that detailed care in ensuring the
accuracy. (with possible node duplicates being prevented)[2]
.... if it takes a few years to get all the data into OSM... that's fine.
Thats what crowd-sourcing is for. As the map gets visibly better, it will
attract more users & more editors :-)

... IMO
Cheers,
Sam

[1] I say 'copying in' because it isnt really importing that we will be
doing. We are simply opening up the .osm files and finding map features
that dont already exists in OSM, and then improving osm by copying in those
features manually. (while at the same time) adding in unique extra features
that make OSM so great. . ie. Bicycling parking :)

[2] Richard, (and anyone else) would you be able to translate what i wrote
into english, so then it can be posted to the wiki, as perhaps the beginings
of the "CanVec Import - Quick Start User Guide ~ Tips for people who want to
help merge in the CanVec .osm files into the Map"?
