Hey all,

Figured I look, for the codes mentioned on the GNS site and save others the
trouble.

ADM 1 Codes
First-order administrative division. An administrative area directly
subordinate to the pertinent governing authority.

CC1
Country code. CA being Canada.

DSG
Feature designation code. Comprised of two to six character code to
identify what "type" of feature this is. In this case, PPL means Populated
Place.

FC
Feature Classification. Designed to allow similar features in GNS to be
grouped together and searched for.

JOG
Joint Operations Graphic Reference. This is a specification determined by
the US Department if Defense to ensure that graphical representations of
the feature (maps) treat the item in the same manner.

MGRS
An alpha-numeric system of expressing UTM/UPS coordinates.

UFI
Unique Feature Identifier

UNI
Unique Name Identifier

RC
Region Font Code. FOr determining the equivalent characters used in GNS
sorts rendered in Roman Script. 1 means Americas and Western Europe.

n:xx:NT=N
NT is the Name Type and N means Approved.

The rest mentioned are self-explanatory. Very few of these codes appear to
hold any meaning for the OSM database as it sorts the data based on it's
own tagging references. As such, they should probably all or almost all be
removed from OSM.

Oops. Meant to send this to everyone.
